Red Sneaker Day Spotlight: St. Michael’s University

Red Sneaker Days provides a “day” when everyone wears their red sneakers/shoes (or anything red) and participates together to raise awareness for the dangers of food allergies. The goal is not only to increase education and awareness to the communities of those suffering with food allergies, but just as importantly, to educate those who are not directly affected by them.

St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, USA hosted a Red Sneakers Day in October 2022 to help raise food allergy awareness on campus. Angela Armour, Executive Director for Institutional Advancement at St. Michael’s College, organized a booth outside the Student Union with Red Sneakers for Oakley merchandise, food allergy resources, and epinephrine auto-injector trainers. Angela and Oakley’s Aunt Tyler were able to educate students on campus about food allergies as well as connect with the students who have food allergies. St. Michael’s College holds a special place in the Debbs’s heart for a couple of reasons. Oakley’s dad, Robert Debbs, graduated from St. Michael’s College. It is also one of the last places Oakley visited. Oakley was wearing his red sneakers the day he visited the school!
