Landmark Legislation Passed for Student Safety!
The Florida Senate has unanimously passed Senate Bill 1514, significantly enhancing student safety for children with allergies across all Florida schools. This important legislation mandates that every traditional and charter public school is not only equipped with EpiPens but also that school staff are properly trained to administer them to students experiencing allergic reactions at any point throughout the school day—before school starts, during classes and activities, and even after school hours. Passing this bill represents a monumental step forward for the food allergy community, as it ensures that school personnel are fully prepared and confident to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations. The legislation was deeply inspired by the powerful and moving story of Sherry Isler, a dedicated mother and Red Sneakers for Oakley Ambassador, whose son encountered significant barriers to safely participating in school activities due to the absence of epinephrine administration training among staff. We are proud to have stood in strong support of this bill, fully recognizing its profound and lasting impact on protecting the lives and well-being of young students throughout Florida.
