7 Products You Never Thought Would Contain Dairy

Managing dairy allergy is becoming tougher as more new products enter the market that contain dairy or "may contain" dairy.

We will take this moment to reiterate: Read EVERY label, EVERY time.

And, not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES.
1️⃣ Once in the supermarket
2️⃣ Once at home before you put it away
3️⃣ Once before you eat it

When first diagnosed with a milk/dairy allergy, many people assume that giving up common sources of dairy, such as milk and cheese will be the extent of it. But that’s simply not the case.

Here are 7 products where dairy is frequently hidden:

👉 ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
Some artificial sweeteners are derived from dairy foods.

👉 BATH PRODUCTS
ie: shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. Even though these are not food items, they can trigger a reaction if ingested or inhaled by mistake.

👉 BREATH MINTS
Not all, but a few do contain casein-related ingredients.

👉 CANNED TUNA FISH
Some contain hydrolyzed caseinate.

👉 CHEWING GUM
Some brands do actually contain milk protein ingredients.

👉 DRUGS/MEDICATIONS
Lactose is used as the base for more than 20% of prescription drugs and about 6% of over-the-counter medicines and vitamins.

👉 HOT DOGS
Many of the popular hot dog brands contain modified milk ingredients as the fourth ingredient after beef, water, and corn starch.

This is why it’s so important to read labels. Even more important, is to read labels every single time you REpurchase something.
Unfortunately, brands often change their recipes for products and may add different ingredients. So something that may have once been dairy free may not be dairy-free any longer.
